What is Physical Therapy?

Physical therapy is treatment, delivered with a hands-on approach, aimed to ease pain or to help with function, movement or to help you live a healthier life. Physical Therapists are trained medical professionals who are experts in musculoskeletal and neurological conditions. Working hand-in-hand with your physician, physical therapists will evaluate and treat your pain or your movement dysfunction and work towards restoring your function or reducing your pain.
 
Everyone's journey to recovery is different so at Physical Therapy Dynamics you will receive a customized recovery plan tailored to fit your needs. This plan will be adjusted through your course of treatment to work towards long-term improvement and success. Along your recovery journey we will teach you ways to help avoid future re-occurrence of your pain or injury.

Are Physical Therapists medically trained to treat my condition?

To become a Physical Therapist, students go through many years of education with classes in Human Anatomy, Fundamentals of Movement, Clinical Practice, Exercise Physiology, Principles of Exercise, Kinesiology, Biomechanics, Neurology and much more. These are all fancy terms for learning how the body moves, what makes the body move, how to keep the body safe with movement and how to recover from injury or surgery. Physical Therapists have either a Master's or Doctorate level degree, from an accredited program, in Physical Therapy and are state licensed. All therapists are required, by the state, to take 30 hours of continued education every 2 years. Our therapists are well trained and stay up to date on the latest and greatest research and education to be able to serve you best!

Do I need a doctor's referral?

As of September 1, 2019, Texas now has Direct Access available. Direct Access means you can receive care from a Physical Therapist for up to 10 business days, without a doctor's referral. Most insurance companies cover Direct Access but we can verify your benefits to make sure.

How long will my appointment last?

Initial evaluations and subsequent visits typically last 45 minutes to 1 hour depending on your treatment needs.

How long will I have to be in therapy?

At your first visit, the Physical Therapist will complete an evaluation. At the end of the evaluation, they will create a plan of care, with you, that will work towards your goals. They will be able to give you a good idea of how long they anticipate you will be in therapy then. This time could increase or decrease based on how your recovery goes during your course of treatment.

What should I wear to my appointment?

We recommend that you wear gym type clothing, or something you can move around in easily, and tennis shoes. The therapist may need to see your range of motion or be able to move your body easily to evaluate where you are in your recovery. You will also be stretching and moving around the clinic so being comfortable is important. We do have locker rooms  you can change in if you are coming from another appointment or work.

We treat patients from birth on. There are issues in every age group that our physical therapists can treat successfully.

How much will therapy cost me?

Accepted Answer
